Here is our selection of websites that offer a variety of choices for meditation, led by some of the best teachers in the business.
Whether you’re new to meditation or an old hand that just can’t get to class, there are hundreds of audio and video options available online for every level and taste.
+ Dru Meditation: An online course designed for those who are serious about meditating. The nine-month schedule takes a week-by-week approach to learning. It’s well structured, easy to follow, comprehensive and is often used as a prerequisite for teacher training (if you loved it that much and start thinking about a career change). + The Meditation Society of Australia: An online community that offers downloadable podcasts and phone apps including guided meditations, meditation music and children’s meditation. Many are free, including a Meditation for Beginners course, or you can sign up for the $10 premium membership. + Wildmind Buddhist Meditation: Bodhipaksa is a Buddhist teacher and author who has been practising within the Triratna Buddhist Community since 1993. His online course is a four-week module with step-by- step readings, forum access and private email coaching sessions. + The Divine Life Society of Australia: A weekly Skype session that allows people to participate from the comfort of their homes. The sessions are run every Saturday, with registration from 5.45 to 5.55am and meditation from 6 to 6.45am (Sydney time). Everyone is welcome and it’s free to join. + Sahaja Yoga Meditation: Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation, runs a weekly guided meditation every Sunday that’s streamed live between 9.30 and 10.30am (Sydney time) on 2SERfm. Based in Sydney? Tune in to 107.3fm. Or log on to the 2SERfm website for live streaming from anywhere. A selection of past radio podcasts can be downloaded at www.meditationpodcasts.com and Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi’s online course is available at www.onlinemeditation.org, where the Sahaja meditation is introduced through videos and audio-guided meditations. + Meditation Oasis: A diverse series of guided meditations, instructions on how to meditate and music for meditation. The website’s Simply Being: Guided Meditation for Relaxation and Presence is one of Miranda Kerr’s top 10 health apps. Many of these are available as downloadable software that can be used on an iPhone, BlackBerry, Android and Windows device. Meditation Oasis also offers a four-week online meditation course with easy-to-follow instructions and the option of paying extra for email consultations with founders Mary and Richard Maddux. + Connect With Spirit: Australia’s Dr Michael Taylor and his wife, who goes by the name of ‘K’, have pre-recorded meditations on their Connect With Spirit website. The two authors, life coaches and healers lead the sessions and what makes them different is the use of didgeridoo music, played by Dr Michael himself, to facilitate meditation and clear blocked energy. + Open Heart: As well as running classes around the world (including quite a few in Australia), this global spiritual organisation offers free downloadable meditation podcasts and access to its online meditation rooms.
